
The Mid-Prairie boys and girls soccer teams were both on the pitch Monday in a split doubleheader. The No. 8 Golden Hawk boys were a 6-2 winner over the Columbus Wildcats on the road. It was Columbus that struck first, in the game’s opening 12 minutes to take a 1-0 lead. The Trimpe brother tandem got the Golden Hawks on the board and then gave them the lead with Ethan supplying the assist and Owen the goal in the 20th and 38th minutes, putting Mid-Prairie up 2-1 at half. In the second half the Mid-Prairie offense continued to roll, scoring four times with Owen Trimpe finishing his hat trick in the 41st minute and Beau Flynn, Zeus Fugate and Jack Pennington adding insurance goals. The Golden Hawks finished with a commanding 14 shots on goal in the match. The Hawks are now 6-0 with the win, Columbus falls to 5-2. The Golden Hawks go to Cascade Friday.
The Mid-Prairie girls saw their modest two match winning streak snapped by visiting Union, La Porte City in Wellman 5-1 Monday. The Knights held a 3-0 lead at half and outscored Mid-Prairie 2-1 after the break. The lone Golden Hawk goal came from Sophie Baker, her sixth on the season. With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 5-3. The Golden Hawk girls travel to Mediapolis Thursday.
