Last week the boys golf teams of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference had their shot at a conference title and today the girl squads get their turn. Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison will be the home for the 14-team league today for the conference meet.

Area schools Columbus Community, Highland, Lone Tree, Hillcrest Academy, and Winfield-Mt. Union will all be making the trip south. Highland’s Charlie Aicher could be competing for an individual title, as her 50.17 nine-hole average ranks third in the league and Columbus Community’s Jobie Lekwa is sixth with a 53.57 average. Highland is posting a 241.25 team score every outing and that is the third best in the conference. WMU Head Coach Mitch Wachs outlines how to be successful on this course. “The front nine is carved out of timber so to shoot good scores you have to keep the ball in front of you. The back nine is a little more wide open, but is also a little longer. There is some birdie opportunities out there if you are playing good golf. The greens are a little bigger. I look forward to going down there and see what we can do.”

The 18-hole tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. this morning in Fort Madison.
