After reviewing public survey results the Washington Community School Board has narrowed down their middle school facility proposal options to focus on two as they seek to hold a bond referendum vote in September.

Survey results presented at their school board meeting showed that the choices of building a new school on a new site and renovating the old part of the current high school and adding new additions were closely aligned as voters’ top two choices. The board approved to confirm these two options and will then hold a second online survey to generate feedback, with a second community meeting scheduled the week of May 31st at the current middle school. The board is then anticipated to confirm their final option in early June, and then organize a volunteer bond committee, hold a third community meeting in late June, gather a petition for a referendum vote in July, to then hold the election on September 14th. Superintendent Willie Stone reiterated Wednesday night that although the current middle school is not involved in the two most popular building options, they do not intend to leave an “eyesore” in the community and will seek to find an interested buyer in utilizing the facility or will demolish it.
