Longtime Wayland City Police Chief Ron Roth took some time with KCII News to talk about the meaning of National Police Week. The theme for this year’s event is respect, honor and remember. Roth tells KCII news about what those words mean to him in the profession and how he regards his duties as an officer. “I’m lucky living in a small community such as Wayland where I do have the respect of 99.9% of students at the high school. Each and every one of them honor me the way I honor them. I treat people the way I want to be treated, so that honor falls in the same category. Remembering all of my fallen brothers and sisters in law enforcement. My main goal in being an officer is to serve and protect the public in any means I have to.”
Roth has been in law enforcement since July of 1979 and served as Wayland Police Chief since April of 2002. He is retiring this July after 42 years in law enforcement. National Police Week is being celebrated this year May 9th through the 15th.
