Peaking at the right time is exactly what the Sigourney girls’ golf team is doing and it showed on Monday. Fresh off of a South Iowa Cedar League title last week, the Savages had an encore performance yesterday by winning their first round regional.
The Savages placed first out of five teams at Knoll Ridge in North English with an 18-hole tally of 402 strokes. That bested second place Colfax-Mingo by 35 strokes with the Tigerhawks shooting a 437. Madelynn Hornback finished third in the 29-player field with a 96, Sidney Morse was fourth with 98, Claire Svenby fifth with 103, and Maizy Cowman sixth with 105. Other results included Lily Schmidt 105 and Reggie Talbert 107. Greenlee Smock of Lynnville-Sully was crowned individual champ with a 79.
The Savages now advance to Monday’s regional final at Prairie Knolls in New Sharon.
