Two KCII area boys golfers will hit the course today in hopes to qualify for the Class 3A state tournament when Washington’s Roman Roth and Mid-Prairie’s Dominic McCain compete in the district meet.

Roth will travel to Burlington to play at Flint Hills with eight other schools participating including Solon, Monticello, Maquoketa, Mount Vernon, Clear Creek-Amana, Mount Pleasant, Vinton-Shellsburg, and Benton Community. The freshman qualified for districts after placing second at last week’s home sectional with an 18-hole round of 76. Roth has been a steady force with an average of 78 on the season that ranks 13th in the state.

McCain will compete at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa along with individuals from Knoxville, Pella, Albia, Clarke, Grinnell, Newton, Winterset, Carlisle, and Oskaloosa. The senior shot a 79 in last week’s sectional at Pine Knolls to advance. He has been the leader for the Golden Hawks all season long and comes in with an 81 average.

In order to advance to the state tournament next week in Marshalltown, Roth and McCain must crack the top two for individuals not on qualifying teams. The meets get underway at 10 a.m. this morning.
