The No. 15 ranked Mid-Prairie boys soccer team kept their season alive Monday, going on the road and upsetting No. 8 Albia in the substate semifinal round of the class 1A playoffs 1-0 in penalty kicks. The two teams went scoreless through 40 minutes of the first half, then 40 minutes of the second half, followed by two scoreless overtime periods. From there the match was decided in penalty kicks, where Mid-Prairie prevailed 3-2. Jarret Hoffman in the first position, Tucker Miller in the second and Owen Trimpe in the fifth all converted their penalty kicks. Golden Hawk goal keeper Justice Jones stopped a pair of Blue Demon shots in the extra frame and Albia did not put the deciding shot on frame. Jones had seven saves prior to the penalty kick round, turning in a clean sheet through regulation and the initial overtimes. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 11-4 on the season, they advance to Wednesday’s substate final at West Liberty against the No. 4 Comets who were a 6-4 winner over Clarke on Monday.
