Peaking at the right time is easier said than done, but don’t tell that to the Sigourney girls’ golf team. The Savages continued their impressive stretch of golf on Monday by winning their regional final in New Sharon to advance to next week’s class 1A state meet.
The Savages bested the 12-team field at Prairie Knolls with an 18-hole score of 386 to beat out second place New London with a 392. Maddie Hornback had the third best score of the tournament with a 92. Sidney Morse cracked the top five with a 95, Lily Schmidt had a 97, and Maizy Cowman rounded out the scoring with a 102. Scratch scores included Claire Svenby 104 and Reggie Talbert 112.
Highland fell short of advancing by shooting a 426. Scores for them included Charlie Aicher 101, Kayla Cerny 106, Jenna Waters 106, Kelsi Cerny 113, Carson Mellinger 114, and Kerra Longbine 119.
