Steve Roth had a memorable 2021 spring where his Washington boys’ track team crowned an individual state champion and cracked the top 12 in the team standings. The longtime head coach now gears up for a memorable summer where he will be in the running for a national coach of the year honor.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association announced Roth as a finalist for the 2021 National Coach of the Year for boys track and field. The head man for the Demons for the past 46 years is one of eight finalists and he is the only participant from Iowa. Roth was in the running for it last year before the pandemic delayed the event. He was nominated for the honor on a selection process that includes longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years, and winning percentage.

The national convention to announce the winner will be on July 29th in Lincoln, Nebraska.
