The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team will be in action on this Memorial Day when they host the Mount Vernon Mustangs. Mid-Prairie is 0-3 on the season after being swept by West Liberty in a River Valley Conference doubleheader and falling to Keokuk late in the opening week. For the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Dakota Mitchell who is hitting a red hot .538 with three runs scored. Katelyn Schneider has the team lead with four RBI. In the circle, Myah Lugar has worked 19 innings with an 8.19 ERA.
Mount Vernon is 3-0 on the season with wins over Anamosa and a doubleheader sweep of Vinton-Shellsburg. The Mustangs are ranked No. 3 in class 3A in the initial poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. These two teams last met in 2019 with Mount Vernon taking a 14-4 win.
