The final two days of the golf season has arrived with a pair of KCII area girls teams preparing for the state meet.
Washington will compete for the class 3A crown at River Valley Golf Course in Adel with the first 18 holes of the 36 hole meet being played today. The Demons come into the contest with a 324 stroke 18-hole average that ranks first in the state. They dominated last week’s regional final in Oskaloosa by winning with a 317 led by meet medalist Kiki Bruner with a 71. Head Coach Len Kull tells KCII Sports mentally preparing for each hole on this course is key. “Some of the holes require a good plan and that is something I have been pleased with our team this year. They come up with a plan and try to execute it. Even if it doesn’t go as planned, it seems like each one of them are able to make a change and bounce back.”
Sigourney qualified for the 1A meet at Ames Golf and Country Club. The South Iowa Cedar League Champions won the New Sharon regional with a 386 and Madelynn Hornback placed third individually with a 92. The team has a 411 average on the season.
The state action begins at 9 a.m. this morning.
