The dynasty that is Washington girls’ golf is a live and well. For the sixth time in school history the Demons were crowned state champions yesterday after capping off an impressive two rounds at the Class 3A State Girls Golf Meet in Adel.

The Demons had a 17-stroke advantage heading into the final day at River Valley Golf Course and they never relinquished the lead by beating second place Gilbert by 28 shots. Washington improved by five strokes in the second 18 holes to have a first place score of 675 (340-335), compared to Gilbert’s 703 and third place Clear Lake’s 745. Kiki Bruner finished her career as runner-up meet medalist with a 77 first round and 74 second to record a seven above par 151 final score. The senior was tied for the lead with just five holes left, but Gilbert’s Eden Lohrbach surged ahead for the crown with a 149. Anna Nacos tied for fifth place out of the 76 player field with an 80-83 to finish with a 163. Makenna Conrad tied for 12th with a 90-89—179, Josie Tanner placed 22nd with 96-89—185, Kaylin Long in 32nd with 93-102—195, and Alecia Goff 64th with 110-125—235. Longtime Head Coach Len Kull tells KCII Sports his team was consistent all year and deserved this title. “It is very difficult for a team to play lights out golf for two and a half months and that is exactly what we did. That is a testament to these ladies. They enjoy golf and enjoy one another. They were always working toward the benefit of the team and they should be pleased with how they were able to work together as a group.”

This is the fourth team title for the orange and black in the last seven years. The Demons lose three of their top six for next season with Bruner, Nacos, and Tanner graduating.
