Produce, homemade crafts, food, live music and more will be the sights and sounds filling downtown Kalona on Saturday for the first farmer’s market of the year. The event was revived in 2020 after not holding a season since 2014. The market will meet downtown, with the intersection of B Avenue and 5th Street serving as the central location. Market Director and Assistant Chamber of Commerce Director Krista Hershberger spoke with KCII News about what can be found at the market. “A few things from last year that were really popular are back again this year. We have a flower farm from Wellman, Under a Tin Roof that brings beautiful wildflower bouquets. Miller Family Homestead raises their own beef in a healthy way. They will be grilling their products that you can try and then order from them. There will also be lots of traditional Amish baking. For music, we are happy to have Blake Shaw. He was the main musician last fall. We will have different styles of music from Saturday to Saturday to provide more variety.”

There are still spaces available for those who would like to be a vendor. More information can be found on the Kalona Market Facebook page. The market season continues weekly from 9a.m. to noon through the end of September.
