The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team was swept Tuesday in a River Valley Conference doubleheader by No. 11 Durant. The Wildcats took game one 14-8 and shut out the Hawks in game two 12-0. Durant jumped on Mid-Prairie early in game one, plating eight runs in their first half inning. Mid-Prairie would answer back with two in the bottom half, with each team scoring once in the second. The Wildcats would add another run in the third and the Hawks would put up a pair in the fourth to leave the score at 10-5. Durant kept the pressure on scoring in each of their last three innings with two runs in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh. Mid-Prairie also didn’t go quietly, scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth. Hannah Sellers had three hits, including a home run and drove in a pair. Myah Lugar and Brenna Jehle also each had two RBI. Lugar took the loss in the circle, working five and a third innings, allowing 16 hits, 13 runs and striking out four.
Durant controlled game two from start to finish, scoring three times in the first, twice in the third, five times in the fourth and posting two more in the fifth to secure the mercy rule win. Mid-Prairie recorded only four hits in the night cap against Kylie Schult. Dawsyn Miller took the loss going three innings, giving up five hits, five runs and striking out one. Mid-Prairie is now 0-6 on the year as they host Camanche Thursday.
