Work on a dual purpose tennis/pickleball court resurfacing project will begin following action by the Washington City Council this week.

City Administrator Brent Hinson presented the council with a quote of $58,294 from LL Pelling to repair major cracks, resurface, and paint the court with nets and posts installed. The city will be contributing $18,000 for the project happening at the existing tennis courts near Case Field, with $10,000 commitments from the Washington, Iowa Betterment Foundation and the Brinton Trust, an anonymous $15,000 donation, $8,000 from the Washington Community School District, and a $5,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation. The council approved the bid, with Council Member Millie Youngquist remarking that this will be a good use of a facility not getting as much use.
