Another Southeast Conference showdown is tonight for the Washington summer teams when they travel to Burlington for a twin bill with the Grayhounds.
The Demon softball squad is 5-8 after a busy second week of the season. They went 1-3 over the weekend at an Iowa City tournament where the Demons beat West High 6-2, but fell to Pleasant Valley 7-0, Davenport West 11-1, and North Scott 8-5. In the win against the Trojans, Cara Linnenkamp went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and got the win in the circle giving up two runs on two hits. Ava Turner led the offense on the weekend with five hits and Emmy Wenger had four. Burlington is 2-4 after splitting with Fairfield on Thursday. Morgan Schroeder is their main hitter with a .389 average and six RBI.
The Washington baseball team will try to knock off the defending SEC champs in the Grayhounds (2-1). Washington is 3-2 and split with Fort Madison last week in the conference opener. Ethan Zieglowsky is 7-for-17 with six RBI on the young season. Burlington shutout Fairfield in a pair of games last week to start up the league campaign. Brock Krieger is 4-for-6 with two runs driven in.
