The Highland baseball and softball teams scored wins Friday over the visiting Wapello Indians and Arrows in Riverside. On the softball diamond the Huskies got a 4-0 win. Highland scored twice in the first and twice in the second inning to build the early lead and ride pitching and defense the rest of the way. Sarah Burton was two for three at the plate, Payton Brun drove in one. Jessica Kraus got the win in the circle, throwing the complete game shut out, giving up only three hits and striking out eight. The Huskes are now 7-1 on the year as Wapello falls to 3-5.
On the baseball diamond, the Huskies were a 4-1 winner. Wapello jumped out to a 1-0 lead, pushing across one run in the first. Highland took the lead with a three spot in the third and added one more in the fourth to finish the scoring. Chase Schultz had three hits in the win including two doubles. Luke Miller and Trevor McFarland each had an RBI. Logan Bonebrake got the win on the mound, going six innings, giving up three hits, one run and striking out nine. Peyton Yeggy pitched the seventh to record the save. The Huskies are now 5-2 on the year, while Wapello falls to 2-3.
