The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams take the field tonight in Wellman and Kalona against the Monticello Panthers for single River Valley Conference contests. The Mid-Prairie baseball team is 4-2 on the season, with a 15-10 win at Solon Friday in their last game. The Hawks were led by Karson Grout with three hits and five RBI. Aidan Rath belted a homer and drove in three. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 8 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .356 as a team with an overall ERA of 4.52. Mid-Prairie is led individually by Cain Brown with a .474 average. Kayden Reinier and Grout each have 11 hits to lead the way, Grout and Rath have each driven in a team best 12. On the mound Alex Bean, Brown and Rath are all 1-0 with Bean and Brown yet to give up a run.

Monticello is 3-4 this season. The Panthers were 7-2 winners over Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday. For the season Monticello is hitting .292 as a team with an overall ERA of 2.28. Individually they are led by Dylan Roher with a .421 average and eight RBI. On the hill it’s Preston Ries with a 1-0 record. The freshman has yet to allow a run. Mid-Prairie has won three of the last four in the series including a 4-1 victory in Wellman in 2020.

The Mid-Prairie softball team comes into the night with a 1-10. They were beaten at the University of Iowa Tournament Saturday by Center Point-Urbana and Cedar Rapids Prairie. On the season the Hawks are hitting .326 as a team and have an overall ERA of 8.69. Individually, the Hawks are led by Madeline Schrader with a .500 average. Katelyn Schneider has driven in a team best seven and Hannah Sellers has 13 hits to lead the way. In the circle, Myah Lugar has worked 52 innings with a 7.71 ERA and 1-7 record.

Monticello is 3-2 this season, they split a doubleheader with Clayton Ridge Friday, taking game one 9-4 before dropping the nightcap 12-11. On the season, the Panthers are hitting .343 as a team with a 6.30 combined ERA. Individually, they are led by Mallory Steiner and Lainey Fellinger with .444 averages. Fellinger has driven in a team best eight on eight hits. In the circle Steiner has a 2-2 record in 22 innings of work with a 5.01 ERA. The Hawks have won two straight in the series, including a 13-3 win last year.
