Today Johnson County residents will go to the polls to select a new member of the Board of Supervisors in a special election. Running for the position are Democrat and former Lone Tree mayor Jon Green, Republican and former Iowa City School Board member Phil Hemingway of West Liberty and Independent Brian Campbell of Iowa City. Early voting began on May 19th. More than 4,100 ballots were requested in the race and over 99% of those have been returned. The board is made up of five members elected at large that serve four year terms. The Washington Precinct including Hillcrest Academy will vote at the Mid-Prairie Home School Education Center on Angle Road. Residents of the Sharon Precinct, including Sharon Center will cast ballots at Sharon Center Methodist Church on 520th Street Southwest. Those from the Liberty Pleasant Valley Precinct, including the town of Hills, will vote at the Hills Community Center, 110 Main Street East and those from the Fremont-Lincoln-Lone Tree precinct, including the city of Lone Tree, will cast ballots at the Lone Tree American Legion on North Devoe Street. Polls open today at 7 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m.
