A pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchups took place in Winfield on Monday when the WMU summer teams welcomed Highland and both schools managed a win.
In an anticipated softball game, the Wolves took control of the first meeting with a 3-1 victory. They scored once in the first, two in the fourth, and that is all Madie Anderson needed in the circle. The senior tossed a complete game three hitter with nine strikeouts and didn’t give up a run until the final inning. The offense scattered five hits with Molly Miller hitting a solo home run and going 2-for-3. Jobey Malone and Anderson each picked up one RBI. Highland’s lone run came off of a solo shot from Jessica Kraus and Grace Batcheller took the loss in the circle despite tossing six innings giving up two earned runs on three hits. WMU improves to 7-1 and Highland is now 7-2.
The baseball game was all Huskies, as they scored two in the first, four in the third, six times in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to make it a 14-0 final in five frames. Chase Schultz was the winning pitcher throwing four innings giving up one hit and one walk. Luke Miller went 3-for-4 and brought in two tallies while Trevor McFarland and Kaige Vonnahme each had three RBI. Nick Crow had the lone WMU knock and Luke Pfeiffer threw 3 1/3 innings surrendering 10 runs on seven hits. The Huskies are now 6-2 and WMU is 1-7.
