It’s a road trip north for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams Thursday to meet Cascade. The Mid-Prairie baseball team enters the day with an overall record of 6-2 after a 9-5 win in Wellman over Monticello Tuesday where they were led by Aidan Rath, Vinny Bowlin and Collin Miller all with two RBI. Keegan Gingerich got the win on the mound with five innings of work allowing three hits, three runs, walking five and striking out two. This week, Mid-Prairie is ranked eighth in class 2A by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association. This year, the Hawks are hitting .358 as a team with a collective ERA of 4.07. Individually they are led by Kayden Reinier and Rath both at .462. Rath has a team best 13 RBI and five homers. On the year, Alex Bean, Cain Brown and Rath are all 1-0 on the mound with Brown yet to allow a run.
Cascade is 7-2 overall. Tuesday they knocked off Iowa City Regina 4-0. On the year, the Cougars are hitting .254 as a team with an overall ERA of 1.93. Individually they are led by Eli Green hitting .345. Jack Carr is 2-0 on the mound and has yet to allow a run. These two teams met last season with Mid-Prairie taking a 12-2 win.
The Golden Hawk softball team is now 2-10 after a 3-2 walk off win over Monticello in Kalona Tuesday. On the season the Hawks are hitting .321 with an ERA of 8.10. Individually they are led by Madeline Schrader at .440 with five RBI. In the circle, Myah Lugar has thrown 59 innings with a 2-7 record and 7.04 ERA. Cascade is 4-5 overall. They were beaten by Iowa City Regina Tuesday 4-3. For the year the Cougars are hitting .298 as a team with an ERA of 4.20. The Cougars are led individually by Claudia Noonan with a .533 average and four RBI. In the circle it’s Kate Green with 11 innings of work, a 1-0 record and 0.62 ERA. When these two met last year, Cascade took the contest 10-7. Action in both varsity games begins tonight at 7p.m. in Cascade.
