Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Wapello Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Spruce Street and Highway 61 on a 2005 Buick Century driven by 30-year-old Timothy Dickinson of Davenport. Dickinson pulled into Brown’s Towing and attempted to enter the business before returning to the vehicle. He then refused to stop and his window was shattered by the officer deploying an ASP. The officer was injured. Dickinson then led the Wapello Police Department, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation on a chase reaching speeds in excess of 110MPH over a 15 mile stretch on Highway 61. During the chase, Dickinson and a female passenger were seen throwing full bottles of pop out of the car at officers.
Traveling north, Dickinson continued into Muscatine County where he crossed into oncoming southbound traffic near the 33rd Street intersection. Muscatine County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to deploy stop sticks at this time. As a result of trying to evade the stop sticks, Dickinson lost control of the Buick, crashing into a Muscatine County Deputy Sheriff’s Chevy Tahoe, likely totaling the officer’s vehicle. The Deputy near the vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result.
Dickinson continued to resist arrest and was subdued by taser and multiple officers. He was eventually taken into custody. He was fleeing law enforcement due to multiple outstanding sex offender registry violation arrest warrants. Dickinson was also found to be in possession of more than seven grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and admitted to swallowing three and a half grams of methamphetamine. Both he and the passenger were provided medical attention.
Dickinson was officially charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, a class B felony, eluding causing injury and operating while intoxicated, class D felonies, interference with official acts causing officer injury, a serious misdemeanor, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, speeding, no insurance, no driver’s license, defective muffler, no seat belt, driving on the wrong side of a highway, and littering, all simple misdemeanors. Further felony charges are being filed by the Iowa State Patrol and Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office. Dickinson remains in custody at the Louisa County Jail on $75,000 cash- only bond .
