keota-eagles1-300x211-300x211-8

It may have just been a regular season game that didn’t have championship stakes, but don’t tell that to the players. Montezuma was the team that dashed the hopes of a state bid for the Keota boys’ basketball team back in February and Wednesday was an opportunity to get a little bit of revenge. The purple and gold baseball team found some late game magic to down the South Iowa Cedar League opponent with a 4-3 walk off win.

With the game tied at 3-3 in the seventh, it was Carson Sprouse that emphatically stomped on home plate for the winning tally after Sam Sieren delivered the game winning hit that sent Eagle fans into a frenzy. Sieren and Colten Clarahan each went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead a seven hit offense. Clarahan had another solid outing on the hill with 6 1/3 innings giving up one earned run on four hits and striking out 15. Luke Hammen retired the final two outs to pick up the victory. The Eagles turned around to face Eddyville-Blakesburg last night and clawed back from a 9-0 deficit to 9-8, but ultimately fell 15-8. They now sit at 5-3 on the season.

The softball team was never able to fully recover from an 8-0 hole against Montezuma on Wednesday and dropped the conference game by a 10-7 final. The Eagles did get the bats going with 11 hits led by a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored by Nicole Clarahan. Cassandra Swantz had a pair of knocks and Sky Weber recorded three RBI. Macie McDonald tossed 5 1/3 innings giving up two earned runs on five hits. Keota now holds a record of 0-6.

Both Eagle squads end week three tonight at BGM.
