Washington County Development Center, Inc. continues to receive support from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation recently through their spring small grant cycle.

WCDC received a $5,000 grant for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system at the day habilitation center located at 1425 West 5th Street in Washington. For 50 years the organization’s services have continued to expand opportunities for clients with disabilities to live in their community and be productive members of Washington and its surrounding areas. WCDC President David Hoffman shares approximately how many clients they serve today, “We serve about 100 clients and they’re not all out here at this building. When I first arrived here about five years ago my head was spinning because it’s almost like a school in the morning. Where the buses pull up at 9 o’clock and a lot of those clients are the day habilitation clients, but then all through the day the buses are coming off and on and that’s because clients might have been at something, a job, and then they’re coming to day habilitation for the rest of the day or they might be coming out here for prevocational work.”

Hoffman also credits Washington County Mini Bus for their role in transporting clients to and from the WCDC main campus. The organization has received over $205,000 in grant funds from the riverboat foundation since the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort’s opening in 2006 for needs including technology upgrades, fire safety, transportation, accessible seating, kitchen upgrades, and much more. WCDC welcomes the community to help celebrate their 50th anniversary with a Washington Chamber of Commerce Alive After Five event happening from 5-7 p.m. June 24th at their main campus.
