It was a busy end to the week for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team as they took on Solon Friday and then traveled to the Eddyville-Blakesburg Tournament Saturday. Against the No. 11 ranked Spartans in Kalona Friday, the Hawks were beaten 7-3. Solon jumped out early with two runs in each of the first two innings to build a 4-0 lead. They would grow the advantage to 5-0 with a single run in the fifth. The Hawks attempted the comeback late, scoring twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to get within 5-3, but the Spartans scored two insurance runs in the seventh to finish the win. With the loss, Mid-Prairie fell to 2-12.

The Golden Hawks traveled to Eddyville-Blakesburg Saturday for the Rocket Tournament. They opened the day falling to Prairie City Monroe 10-4. The Hawks got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first, only to see PCM come back with two in the second and four in the third to take a lead they wouldn’t give up at 6-2. Mid-Prairie got back on the board and back in the game with two runs in the fourth to pull within 6-4, but the Mustangs scored once in the bottom of the fourth and three times in the fifth to hold off the Hawks. Mid-Prairie bounced back in a big way though, finishing Saturday with a 13-4 win over Centerville to run their record to 3-13. The Golden Hawks are at West Branch tonight.
