After returning home late on Thursday from a doubleheader split against Keokuk, the Demon softball team turned around for an early morning three hour trip west to Creston for a tournament. The long haul had limited ill effects on Washington, as they had a successful weekend where they went 2-1.

The Demons opened with an 8-1 loss to #7 ranked Atlantic on Friday, but rebounded for a 1-0 victory over Bondurant-Farrar and 13-3 win over Central Decatur. Halle Cuddeback was fantastic in the shutout of the Bluejays, as the eighth grader got her first career win in the circle tossing a complete game giving up seven hits and one free pass in just 77 pitches. Emmy Wenger had two of the team’s four hits with a pair of singles. The win over the Cardinals featured nine knocks led by a 3-for-4 with three RBI performance from Kellie Dallmeyer. Ava Turner also brought in three tallies. Bella Salazar pitched five frames giving up three runs on six hits.

Washington is now 9-11 overall and hosts Fairfield (9-6) for a Southeast Conference doubleheader tonight. Listen to all of the action on FM 106.1 KCII with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.
