At last week’s meeting the Keota City Council reviewed a short term plan to fulfill public works obligations while the position is vacant. Chad McCleary with Ion Environmental Solutions will handle the wastewater treatment responsibilities for the position, including daily coverage of the wastewater treatment plant, and weekly testing. Other daily chores for the position will be handled by councilman Kevin Slaubaugh. Options on the table moving forward include making the agreement with Ion permanent for them to operate the water, well, sewer plants and work related to the Iowa DNR while the city hires someone to take care of mowing, snow removal and other city related responsibilities. The second option would be that the city fills the vacant public works position with the responsibilities as they stand currently, and do not use Ion’s services. Council will make a final decision on a long term plan at their meeting June 21st.
