highland-huskies51-9

It was a memorable weekend for the Highland summer teams when both baseball and softball filled up the win column.

The baseball team closed the third week with an emphatic 10-3 victory over Burlington Notre Dame (5-4) on Friday where the Huskies scored in each of the first five innings. Kaige Vonnahme went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run knocked in and Luke Miller recorded four RBI with three hits. Chase Schultz threw a complete game on the hill giving up three runs on 10 hits and striking out five. The Huskies improved to 9-3.

Highland softball traveled to Calamus-Wheatland for a tournament on Saturday and swept the competition in all three games. They never trailed on the day and defeated Northeast Goose Lake 6-4, Midland 10-1, and Camanche 9-0. Solid starts in the circle was the difference with Grace Batcheller throwing a complete game shutout against the Indians with just four hits given up and nine strikeouts. This came after pitching all seven innings against the Rebels on the hot day where she gave up four runs on six hits. Jessica Kraus took care of the other game against the Eagles with one run given up on five knocks and striking out 10. Sarah Burton had the best offensive performance in a game by going 3-for-4 and crossing the plate four times against Camanche. Highland is now 13-2 on the season.

Both squads make a quick trip to Lone Tree tonight for SEISC play.
