You can get a free lesson on a Chinese martial art practiced for defense training, health benefits, and meditation in Washington this week.

The Washington Public Library is presenting Tai chi in Central Park at 9 a.m. Friday. The lesson will be taught by Heritage Agency on Aging Health & Wellness Coordinator Bryan Bruner. Bruner’s background includes football, baseball, kickboxing, Olympic lifting, and deadlifting 400 pounds. Bruner now focuses on helping people with their balance to prevent falls, and has taught Tai chi for arthritis for two years. Washington Public Library Adult Services Librarian Tammy Valentine says Tai chi has also helped Bruner’s own problems with arthritis in his back. This event is free and open to the public.
