The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team faces a tough task in a Wednesday doubleheader when they travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg. The Golden Hawks are riding a six game winning streak after a 9-7 and 13-3 doubleheader sweep of the West Branch Bears on the road Monday. Mid-Prairie has an overall record of 10-2 and are currently ranked No. 3 in class 2A according to the poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. On the year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .370 as a team, second highest in class 2A. They have a staff ERA of 4.34. Individually, the Golden Hawks have five players hitting over .400 on the season with three players at .500 or better with Karson Grout, Kayden Reinier and Aidan Rath. Rath leads the team at .527, slugging over 1.200 and driving in 22 with a best in the state seven home runs. Rath, Cain Brown, Collin Miller and Alex Bean are all unbeaten on the mound with Rath holding a 0.54 ERA.
Eddyville-Blakesburg is 10-4 this year. They split a doubleheader with Clarke last time out, beating the Indians 5-3 before falling by the same score in the nightcap. EBF is receiving votes in this week’s class 2A poll. On the year, the Rockets are hitting .301 as a team with a staff ERA of 3.93. Individually, EBF is led by Jared McCrea with a .400 average and a team best 15 RBI. On the mound, Blair Francis, Kyle Davis, Braxton Malloy and Carsen Wade are all unbeaten with Davis yet to give up a run and Francis and Malloy with ERAs under two. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Kyle Mullet talked about the Hawks formula in their recent six game winning streak. “We have been eliminating errors. Love the way we have been heating the ball and putting up runs. I feel like we have been having quality at bats. We talk a lot about not giving at bats away and I feel like we have done a great job with that over our last six games.”
These two teams met in a doubleheader a season ago, splitting the two games with Mid-Prairie winning 15-2 and the Rockets a 10-7 win. The Golden Hawk softball team will also be in Eddyville tonight for a doubleheader with the Rockets. The Golden Hawks are 3-16 on the year after a loss to Mount Pleasant on the road Tuesday 4-0. The Hawks managed just two hits in the contest, one from Hannah Sellers, the other from Brenna Jehle. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .328 as a team with an ERA of 7.48. Individually, Mid-Prairie is led by Myah Lugar with a .417 average and 25 hits. In the circle, Lugar has also done the majority of the work, throwing 94 innings with a 3-11 record and 7.07 ERA.
Eddyville-Blakesburg is 18-2 on the year. The Rockets are ranked fifth in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last time out the Rockets swept Burlington Tuesay 7-3 and 7-0. For the year, the Rockets are hitting .408 as a team with a staff ERA of 2.28. Individually, EBF is led by Megan Lobbrecht with a .544 average and 25 RBI. In the circle it’s Brooklyn Bettis with a 10-1 record in 68 innings with a 1.22 ERA,. Action starts tonight in the doubleheader with first pitch of game one at 6p.m.
