A battle for Southeast Iowa Super Conference North division positioning took place in Riverside last night when the Highland summer teams welcomed Louisa-Muscatine and both schools managed a split.
The softball game saw the Huskies tied 2-2 with the #3 ranked Falcons (11-7) in the seventh when the L&M offense exploded for six runs to prevail 8-2. Jessica Kraus had two of the four Huskie hits and had a run scored. Grace Batcheller threw all seven in the circle giving up eight earned runs on 14 hits and no walks. Highland is now 14-4 overall and 8-2 in the league.
The Huskie baseball team broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a tally and held on for a 5-4 division victory over L&M (6-7). Chase Schultz went 2-for-3 at the dish with two RBI and Kaige Vonnahme also had a pair of knocks. Schultz did a bulk of the work on the hill tossing 6 1/3 frames giving up one run on three hits and striking out 13 batters. The Huskies improve to 11-4 on the season and stand atop of the division with a 9-1 mark.
