The KCII Severe Weather Action team provided live coverage of severe weather in Washington county twice to start the weekend. Just after 10:30p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 11:15p.m. for eastern Washington County and central Louisa County. Radar indicated threats with the storm included ping pong ball sized hail. The warning was allowed to expire at 10:50p.m.
A second round of showers and thunderstorms prompted a severe thunderstorm warning to be issued for Washington County at 11:40p.m. At one point, Washington County was under three different severe thunderstorm warnings with the main threats being large hail, damaging winds, dangerous lightning and torrential rainfall. These warnings also included portions of Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk and Louisa Counties. Hail .8″ in diameter was reported by a trained weather spotter in Washington.
Four members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team provided coverage live on-air, and had the power gone out, coverage would have continued with our emergency backup generators. The one to count on for up to the minute severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
