On a night where they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the 1991 state softball team, Columbus Community made sure the celebration continued on the field when the Wildcats swept Mediapolis in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader.
Game one saw the Wildcats put up an 11 spot in the second inning that led to a 16-5 victory in five frames. Emma Milder brought in three tallies while Lily Coil and Sera Vela each had a pair of hits. Libby White threw five innings on the hill giving up five runs (three earned), nine hits, and striking out six. The nightcap featured five first inning Wildcat runs and they held off Mediapolis for a 9-5 victory. Coil went 3-for-3 with two RBI and the eighth grader also tossed a complete game giving up five tallies (one earned), seven hits, and recording 10 strikeouts.
The Wildcats improve to 5-5 in the league and 8-11 overall, the program’s most wins in a season since 2015.
The Columbus baseball team fell 21-0 to the Bulldogs (11-6) to drop to 0-12 and 0-9 in the division.
