Between pitching, defense, and hitting it was another complimentary night for the Winfield-Mt. Union softball team on Thursday when they handled Pekin (4-10) at home with a 9-1 Southeast Iowa Super Conference victory.
The Wolves quickly scored four in the first, one in the second, and continued to pile on in the later innings for the decisive league win. Madie Anderson tossed a complete game giving up one run, one hit, one walk, and striking out 14 in just 70 pitches. The WMU offense tallied 11 hits led by Kayreanna Sharar going 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs scored. Anna Anderson and Keely Malone each had two hits in the win. The Wolves improve to 12-3 overall and 9-2 in the division.
The Pekin baseball (8-7) team scored 13 times in the fourth and downed the Wolves 17-0 in four innings. WMU drops to 1-15 overall and 1-14 in the league.
