A tornado and severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Washington County Sunday night.
The severe thunderstorm warning was first issued at about 8:18 p.m. for southeastern Keokuk and Washington counties and the tornado warning was issued at about 8:30 p.m. as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Harper moving east at 30 miles per hour. Both warnings were radar indicated, and quarter-inch size hail was reported by a trained weather spotter in Washington at 8:50 p.m. The Washington fire and police departments, Washington County Rescue, and Alliant Energy all responded to a tree limb that fell on a power line near the intersection of North Marion Avenue and West 6th Street at around 9 p.m. and left the scene at about 9:30. Both warnings were allowed to expire at 9 p.m. Five members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of the storm, and had the power gone out, KCII would still be on the air with our backup generator.
