The Big Red Radio Summer Town Tour made stops in Kalona and Brighton this past weekend.
Brighton started off the weekend with their annual Brighton Whoopee Days Celebration. The four-day festival began Thursday with the Bill Riley Talent Show dedicated to Nancy Adrian. Friday was highlighted with the saddle club show and street dance. Saturday featured the Lion’s Club pancake breakfast, the Ding Darling tractor ride, Whoopee Day parade, mud run, cemetery walk, and street dance. Festivities ended Sunday with a community church service in the park and horse shoe tournament.
The Kalona Days celebration took place on Saturday with a 5k and fun run followed by the weekly farmer’s market, a book signing with local author Larry TeBockhorst at the Kalona Public Library, and the parade on C Avenue. Activities continued that evening at the KCTC lot with food vendors, Mid-Prairie alumni awards, Optimist bike giveaway, and live music from Aces and Eights.
KCII broadcasted live and played music with the Big Red Radio from both Brighton Whoopee Days and Kalona Days. The next stop on the KCII Summer Town Tour will be Trekfest in Riverside happening June 25th-26th.
