winfield-mtunion-2

It may sound like a broken record at this point, but chalk up another shutout victory for the Winfield-Mt. Union softball team on Monday night with their latest victim being Wapello.

The Wolves traveled to face the Arrows (12-6, 7-3) and scored in two different innings that proved to be enough in a 5-0 victory. Recent 1,000 career strikeout holder Madie Anderson tossed a complete game giving up just four hits, one free pass, and struck out 12 to make 1,040 in her career. The senior helped herself at the dish as well going 2-for-3 with two RBI while Carlee Sloan and Jobey Malone also had a pair of knocks. WMU is a half game back of the north division lead to improve to 10-2 in the SEISC and 14-3 overall.

The baseball team cut a 6-0 deficit to 6-4 after four frames, but eight unanswered propelled Wapello (5-9) to a 14-4 victory in six. The Wolves recorded eight hits led by Andrew Brown going 2-for-3 with one RBI and Jacob Ford brought in two. Ford tossed five innings on the hill giving up 10 runs (seven earned), eight hits, and one walk. WMU is now 1-16 overall and 1-15 in the league.
