Looking for a fun and educational adventure? This Sunday the Ainsworth Community Together organization will be hosting the Eastern Washington County Trivia Tour guided by Michael Zahs. Those participating will be taking a ride on a charter bus through scenic routes of eastern Washington County and western Louisa County. Much of the tour will focus on the history and background of the towns in these areas including Amboy, Crawfordsville, Welsh, Carter, Harrisburg and Davis Creek. Zahs, a local historian and retired teacher, will guide the tour through different landscapes, churches and cemeteries. While there are many cemeteries on record, not all of them are accounted for. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zahs was given the task to searching the county for unmarked cemeteries.

“They have records of about 60 and Saturday evening I found my 184th cemetery in the county. I know of several others, I just haven’t been to them yet. Over 100 of those have no markers and we’ll probably be doing some of those this Sunday.”

Zahs other significant stops on the tour include the first national road and first courthouse in the state. The tour will last from 1-6 p.m. beginning and ending at the Ainsworth Opera House Community Center. Cost is $65 dollars per person.
