A West Chester residence is considered a total loss after a fire that occurred Friday night.

Wellman Fire Chief Jeremy Peck says crews responded to a house fire call at 203 Franklin Street in West Chester at approximately 11:12 p.m. The homeowner awoke to the garage in flames and by the time agencies arrived, the garage had completely collapsed and the fire had spread to the house. It took responders three hours to subdue the fire. A cause for the fire has not been determined. The Wellman Fire Department was assisted by West Chester First Responders, Washington, Kalona, and Keota fire departments, and Washington County Ambulance Service. American Red Cross was also contacted to assist the homeowner. No injuries were reported.
