A road trip south to Fort Madison was a tough one for the Washington baseball team on Monday when they were swept in a Southeast Conference doubleheader.

The Demons got down 3-0 after one and could never bounce back in the opener with the Bloodhounds (16-3, 10-2) prevailing 8-4. Washington had eight hits led by Wilx Witthoft going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Travis Leyden tossed 3 1/3 innings of one run ball (none earned) and Zeke Slagel pitched the final 2 2/3 giving up seven runs on four hits and walking five.

The orange and black led the nightcap 3-2 heading into the fifth when the Bloodhounds put up a six spot to spark the 10-3 victory. Reece Mayer went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Jacob Miller brought in one. Mayer gave up two runs on two hits in three innings pitched while Kole Williams surrendered eight runs (four earned) on six hits.

Washington is now 9-7 overall and 6-6 in the SEC. They return home tomorrow against Burlington for a doubleheader that can be heard on KCII. The Washington softball game against Mid-Prairie last night was called due to rain.
