Guilty verdicts were given Thursday following a three-day jury trial in Washington County.
Washington County Attorney John Gish announces 48-year-old Daniel Israel Alvarado Zorola of Coralville was convicted of second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charges stemmed from a September 16, 2019 incident.
Alvarado Zorola entered the hotel room of two women while they slept at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort. He used the room key of one of the women lost the night before. While the women slept, Alvarado Zorola moved about the hotel room, taking one of the women’s car keys and room key. The women were awakened when they heard someone taking a shower in their room, and were subsequently startled to see Alvarado Zorola naked in their room. He then got dressed and left the hotel in a vehicle belonging to one of the women.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation leading to Alvarado Zorola’s arrest with the cooperation of the Riverside Casino security and hotel staff. This led to his arrest in December 2019. Sentencing is scheduled for August 20th, where Alvarado Zorola may face up to 12 years in prison. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
