President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he has agreed to a bipartisan deal on an infrastructure package after months of proposals and negotiations.

Senator Charles Grassley (R) told KCII earlier this week that he hoped President Biden would agree upon a bipartisan deal as he believes a bipartisan effort is the only way to get an infrastructure bill passed, “The only that’s holding it up now is how to pay for it.”

The nearly $1 trillion bill includes more than $550 billion in new spending on roads, bridges, and other traditional infrastructure projects. The Senate chamber is expected to hold a vote on the bipartisan proposal in July. Compared to the American Jobs Plan that Biden originally proposed, the Senate’s proposal excludes funding for housing, schools, and Veterans Affairs hospitals, and has smaller funding for areas of electricity, broadband, clean drinking water, and other transportation inequities.
