Late comebacks by the opponent resulted in a pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference losses last night for the Highland summer teams when they were edged by the slightest of margins at Wapello.
The softball game was a battle for third and fourth place in the division and the pitcher’s duel was 1-1 heading into the sixth when the Arrows (13-6, 8-3) plated a run to complete the 2-1 victory. Highland had just three hits with Jessica Kraus having a RBI single. Grace Batcheller was solid despite picking up the loss by throwing 5 1/3 innings giving up two runs on five hits and four strikeouts. The Huskies drop to 15-6 overall and 9-4 in the SEISC.
The Highland baseball team lost control of their north division lead when Wapello (7-9, 6-6) erased a 4-1 seventh inning deficit to storm back and walk it off 5-4. The Huskies finished with eight hits compared to six for the home team. The red and white drop to 11-6 overall and 9-3 in the league. Mediapolis has a one game advantage sitting at 10-2 in the conference.
