The Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball teams are back on their home diamonds tonight against two different Superconference opponents. The Hillcrest baseball team is 7-6 on the year after a 7-3 loss to Louisa-Muscatine Monday. The Ravens have been rained out most of the week. Tuesday, when they were originally supposed to host tonight’s opponent Mediapolis and last night their game with Pekin in Packwood was suspended due to weather. On the year, Hillcrest is hitting .330 as a team with a staff ERA of 3.76. Individually, they are led by Luke Schrock with a .478 average, 22 hits, 16 runs scored and 15 RBI. He is one of three Ravens along with Jace Rempel and Seth Ours hitting .400 or better. On the hill, Seth and Eli Ours are a combined 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 29 innings.
Mediapolis is 14-7 overall, the Bulldogs have a one game lead in the Superconference standings over Highland at 10-2. The Bulldogs were beaten by Wilton Wednesday 9-5. On the year, MEPO is hitting .333 as a team with an overall ERA of 3.34. Individually, the Bulldogs are led by Jaxon Brooks with a .442 average, 23 total hits, 21RBI and 18 runs scored. He is one of three Bulldogs hitting .400 or better along with Lance Ludens and Aidan Danz. On the mound, it’s a tough 1-2 punch for MEPO with Ryan Ensminger and Jaxon Brooks each 3-0 on the year with a combined 0.65 ERA in 40 innings. These two teams met earlier this month with Mediapolis winning 6-2. MEPO has won 14 of the last 15 in the series.
The Hillcrest softball team is 0-16 after a 13-1 loss to Pekin on Thursday. The Ravens are hitting .255 as a team with a staff ERA of 9.93. Individually, they are led by Madeline Fox with a .407 average on 11 hits with three runs scored and two RBI. In the circle, Leah Bontrager has thrown 52 innings with an 0-11 record and 11.04 ERA. Holy Trinity comes to Kalona tonight to take on the Ravens. The Crusaders are 5-11 on the season after being swept in a doubleheader Wednesday by Mid-Prairie. On the season HTC is hitting .251 as a team with a 4.39 combined ERA. Individually, the Crusaders are led by Hallie Cain with a .383 average, 18 hits, 13 runs scored and five RBI. In the circle, Mary Hellige is 5-9 in 84 innings with a 4.05 ERA. These two teams met last year with HTC scoring an 11-1 win in West Point. Holy Trinity has won the last three against the Ravens.
