A valiant effort came up short Thursday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team as they were beaten 2-1 by No. 6 in class 3A Anamosa in eight innings in Kalona. Each team got on the board with a single run in the first and things stayed that way until the top of the eighth when the Blue Raiders scratched across a single tally and made that stand up in the bottom half. Each team finished with three hits on the night. Dakota Mitchell was two for four with a run scored. Hannah Sellers had an RBI. Myah Lugar took the tough loss in the circle going all eight innings, giving up just three hits and two runs while striking out five. The Golden Hawks are now 6-23 and playing at the Linn-Mar tournament this weekend.
