The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams are on the road tonight to meet the Tipton Tigers. The Golden Hawk baseball team comes in with an overall record of 13-5 after a 7-5 loss at Anamosa on Thursday. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 7 in class 2A in this week’s poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. On the season, the Hawks are hitting .357 as a team, third in 2A with an overall ERA of 3.86. Individually, Mid-Prairie has Aidan Rath, Kayden Reinier, Karson Grout, Cain Brown and Keegan Gingerich all hittting above .400 on the season led by Rath at .483 with 28 hits, 26 RBI and state best nine home runs. On the mound Alex Bean, Cain Brown and Collin Miller are a combined 5-0 with a 3.75 ERA in 40 innings. Aidan Rath is 3-1 with a 1.20 ERA.
Tipton comes in with a 5-16 record for the year. They beat North Cedar 4-3 last time out. On the year, the Tigers are hitting .236 as a team with a staff ERA of 4.74. Individually, the Tigers are led by Caden Schmidt at .324 with 23 total hits, 15 runs scored and 11 RBI. On the mound, Kayden Rezac is 2-0 with a 4.96 ERA in 18 innings. Tipton gave the Hawks their only conference loss in 2020 by a 14-7 score and the teams have split their last six meetings.
The Golden Hawk softball team comes in at 6-25 on the year after losses to Fort Dodge and Waverly-Shell Rock over the weekend. For the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .327 with a staff ERA of 7.27. Individually, Mid-Prairie is led by Landry Pacha with a .372 average, 29 hits, 15 runs scored and seven RBI. In the circle, Myah Lugar has thrown 126 innings with a 5-16 record and 6.83 ERA.
Tipton is 1-20 this year. Last game they were beaten by North Cedar 21-0 in Lowden. On the year the Tigers are hitting .129 with an ERA of 9.77 collectively. Individually, the Tigers are led by Carly Langenberg with a .193 average, 11 hits, 10 runs scored and four RBI. Mid-Prairie has won four of the last five in the series.
