A pitcher’s duel in Riverside ended in jubilation for the home squad on Monday when the Highland softball team got revenge from the first meeting and walked it off against Winfield-Mt. Union by a 3-2 final. 

A 2-1 Wolves advantage for much of the game disappeared in the seventh when the bottom half of the Huskie order plated two for the win. Highland had five hits led by Mackinze Hora going 2-for-3 while Katelyn Waters and Kayla Cerny recorded one RBI. Grace Batcheller recorded the final nine outs to get the win giving up just one hit and one walk in the circle. Both the Wolves and Huskies are now tied for third in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division with matching 10-4 conference records. Highland is now 16-6 overall and WMU drops to 14-5. 

The Huskie baseball team made it a clean sweep against the Wolves on the season by winning 12-2 in five innings. Bryce Thompson led the offense going 3-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored while Kaige Vonnahme brought in four after a pair of doubles. Connor Grinstead got the win on the rubber tossing four innings giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and striking out five. WMU recorded five hits with Andrew Brown going 1-for-2 with one RBI. Luke Pfeiffer threw four frames giving up seven tallies (three earned) on six hits. Highland improves to 12-7 and remains one game back of the division lead with a 10-3 league mark. Winfield-Mt. Union is 2-18 overall and 2-17 in the conference.
