After a few close calls, the Keota softball team was able to breakthrough into the win column for the first time on Monday when they brought the offense in a 10-7 victory over Iowa Valley.
After plating one in the first, the Eagle bats exploded for five runs in the second to take a lead they never gave up. The Tigers (4-17) battled back from a late 9-1 deficit, but Keota held them off in the seventh for the win. The purple and gold peppered 10 hits led by Makenzie Jackson going 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kimberly Clarahan was 2-for-5 with four RBI including a home run. Macie McDonald and Taylor Kindred also had a pair of knocks. McDonald got the win on the rubber tossing a complete game giving up seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits, one walk, and striking out one.
Keota is 1-14 overall and 1-13 in the South Iowa Cedar League. They look for their first winning streak tonight at Tri-County.
