Thornburg was kind to the Keota summer teams on Wednesday when they picked up a couple of South Iowa Cedar League victories over Tri-County.
The softball team recorded their first win on Monday against Iowa Valley and they had an encore performance against the Trojans (3-16) with a 7-3 victory where they scored in six of seven frames. Macie McDonald led a 10 hit offense going 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kimberly Clarahan brought in two on a pair of singles. McDonald tossed a complete game in the circle giving up three runs on nine hits and striking out six. Keota improves to 2-14 overall and 2-13 in the conference.
The baseball team managed a two touchdown win against Tri-County (1-15) by a final score of 17-3. A 10-3 lead was put out of reach after seven runs in the top of the seventh. KCII’s JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Colten Clarahan cleaned up at the dish going 4-for-5 with two triples and six RBI. Bryce Greiner, Carson Sprouse, and Evan Vittetoe each brought in two runs. Aidan Anderson was the winning pitcher sending down all nine batters he faced including six strikeouts. The Trojans had just two hits in the game. Keota improves to 12-6 and 10-5 in the league.
