Heading into the final conference game of the season, the Sigourney summer teams are one win away from a South Iowa Cedar League championship. Both baseball and softball squads remain tied atop of the league with Lynnville-Sully after the Savages took care of business on Wednesday against Belle Plaine.
The Savage softball team scored in each of the first four innings and cruised to a 10-0 win in six. The offense peppered 15 hits led by Macy Fisch and Josephine Moore each going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Carly Goodwin also had three hits and Kaylee Weber knocked in a pair of tallies. Goodwin tossed a complete game shutout giving up just two hits, one walk, and striking out 10. They move to 21-8 overall and keep pace with Lynnville-Sully’s 14-1 league record.
The baseball team broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth with four runs in the extra frame that paved the way to a 9-6 triumph. The win moves their conference mark to 12-3, the same as the Hawks. Sigourney is 15-4 overall.
The Savage baseball and softball teams can clinch at least a share of the SICL crown tonight when they host English Valleys for the conference finale. Both Lynnville-Sully teams face off with Montezuma this evening.
